Q: Im sick of Lane Bryants goofy hippie look. It is starting to look like cheap and its getting more and more expensive. I love skirts long or medium length... I also like clothes that are sexy. Help!

A: I don't know where you live but there is a store where I live called Penman's They only sell oversize.I've seen some of there clothes and they are quite fashionable.I hope this helps. Helen

Does anyone know of a good prom dress for a girl who is both plus size and petite?

Q: Because all of the advice I have found has been contradictory. The plus size advice is to wear full gown skirts and long dresses. However the petite advice is to wear short dresses with out a lot of body because it will make you look shorter.

A: Look in slashed prices racks and thrift stores and/or dresses with a wider top. I have the same problem as you. If you are say a size 8 waist, but say DD breasts, try a dress that is about size 12 or 14. I was able to find my first dress at a thrift store and my second dress on the slashed price rack at Macys. The good thing about thrift stores and slashed prices, is that there is a less chance of someone having the same dress.

Plus size Halloween costumes for cheap?

Q: I'm looking for size 28+ costumes that are cheap and relatively modest. What I mean by modest is at least knee length skirts (preferably a little longer). I'm most interested in really feminine costumes, and might want to be something renaissance or medieval related. Preferably it'd be $60 or less and is of relatively good quality.

A: Have you thought about a long halloween tutu -- the no sew variety. You can wear a black turtle neck, which you probably already have and then wear a long no sew tutu and a witch's hat. Is it okay for plus size women to wear dresses/skirts that come an inch or 2 above the knees?

Q: I'm 5'8" and a size 14. A few months ago, I was shopping with my mother, my sister and two cousins for dresses to wear to my grandmother's 80th Birthday party that coming Saturday. My sister is really skinny. My mother quickly got a dress for her. This dress was kind of short (about 3-4 inches aove the knee) and she just kept talking about how good she looked in the dress. I saw a dress that i wanted. It came about 1-2 inches above the knees. My mother kept saying that it was WAY too short and that I needed a longer dress to cover up my calves. My cousins actually had to talk her into buying the dress for me and tell her that there was nothing wrong with me wearing the dress. She bought the dress, but she still continued to say that it was too short. Then, when we got home, she made both, me and my sister try on the dresses and show my father and brother. My father actually put my brother to "judge" how we looked in the dress. My brother said that the dress that my sister was wearing looked okay, but the dress I was wearing was too short and that long dresses are "good for me" (whatever that is to mean). I wore the dress to my grandmother's Birthday party, anyway. Just the other day, my father was still saying that I shouldn't have worn the dress and that I didn't look good in it because I'm not skinny like my sister. Was that okay for me to wear that dress? Or should I have worn a longer dress?

A: Eesh don't worry about what they say. How terrible of them to say that bullshi+. It doesn't matter what size you are, if your legs look okay then show them! Just because you're not slim doesn't mean you should be banished to oversized sacks for dresses! Your family needs to get over the "only skinny girls can wear that" mentality. It's not true! I'm speaking as a 5'4 95lb girl for reference. I'm not saying this because I'm a larger size. I'm saying it because it's true. Size doesn't indicate beauty. As long as the dress emphasizes your figure in an attractive way, there's absolutely no problem! If you have a nice bustline or an hourglass shape, play those features up! If you feel self-conscious about your legs, you can always try working out and toning the muscles. I know plenty of larger ladies out there with some killer legs. Don't let them make you think you need to cover yourself up because you don't have the body of an airbrushed model. Your family needs to get over it!
