Q: my daughter is nearly 6 and going to a party next weekend. i've just bought her a long top with a thick belt around it with leggings set. cause "everyones" got them these days. but do i still put a skirt on even with one of those long tops? i know you can wear a skirt with he leggngs underneath but not sure weather or not you have to with the long style top? so any "up to the minute" fashion wise people could help me.

A: That would be cute if she wear the top with the leggings, and maybe some of those flat ballerina shoes people is wearing with leggings.

Fashion help? 1960's sweater/skirt set, what hat? ?

It is powder blue and the sleeves are more of a 3/4 length, the ones in the picture seem kinda long. It was worn in 1966/1967. So, I know the time frame. Problem is, I wasn't around then, so I don't know what type of hat to wear with it. I was thinking a classic pillbox, but there are so many types of pill boxes to choose from, I still couldn't narrow it down. Could anyone help? Maybe someone who was around then? The suit has a bit of bead work on the lapels, its an iridescent white. Could I possible go with a white hat? I think blue might be hard to come by. I have the gloves originally bought for the suit. And what about shoes? White flats? Its for a photo with my newborn, well, will be newborn. A: I love vintage fashion and have studied it extensively. I actually own 100s of magazines from 1900 through the early 70s just to look at the fashions and what products were used at that time. I really like how women dressed up more in that time. Pillbox hats were of course made famous by Jackie O but there were many other types of hats as well. The problem is that most were quite ugly in the 60s and trying to find one to fit today's larger heads is a problem. But there is a type that would also work that is something like a taller derby with a half brim. That would be perfect with that suit. A more modern cloche of the 30s. If you do go with a pill box, try to get one that doesn't have a lot of embellishment. Those hats were meant for fancier suits and dresses. There are some plainer ones made of wool and other materials that have just one embellishment in the center of the rim and sometimes another embellishment in the center of the very top of the hat. Not seen unless you take the hat off or someone is standing over you. Those would work well too. Colors were very pastel in the early 60s but started getting more bold by the later 60s so you could easily wear something in bright orange, lime green, neon pink, and it would fit with the era. However, some women still chose more subdued colors so you do have a wide variety of selection. Navy is classic from that era and is still popular with white or cream. Since your outift sounds stunning, I would try not to take anything from that and just have the hat be what it is, an accessory. I think that is such a great idea to have your photo taken in this outfit. Hats won't be that difficult to find. Look at some online malls like Go Antiques and Ruby Lane and just punch in 1960s vintage hats. Loads will come up. Shoes of that era had lower heels but not flat. Wide chunky and cuban heels. Lots of sling back and peep toe styles too. And spectator pumps were popular. If you do find a navy hat, those would be the finishing touch to the outfit. Otherwise, I would go with a pump, or a peep toe. In that era, it was very matchy matchy, so your hat, handbag, and shoes would all match. Not like today where we mix it up.

how can i put a bed skirt on when there are slats that run across the bed frame?

Q: i bought a bedding set that includes a bed skirt, but when i tried to put it on over the box spring i realized that the bed frame that supports the box spring/mattress has slats running across, this makes it impossible to use the bed skirt. i thought about deconstructing the bed skirt somehow and adding velcro to it and the under side of the frame, but then i think that the skirt will be too long....any ingenious ideas out there are greatly apreciated!!!!

A: The bed skirt is actually meant to lay between the box spring mattress and the top mattress not underneath both mattresses.
